So I will let it slip that I went on a job interview today. Another consulting firm in town is hiring a mid-level IT manager and I put my sombrero in the ring. It'd be a bit more salary and responsibility.

I think I kicked ass. We'll see in a couple of weeks. The head IT guy is going on vacation for a coule of weeks, so it'll be at least that long before i know.

Now that that's out of the way, i know you're dying to know how i celebrated my secret interview: with TACOS of course! Two crunchy tacos and a gordita. The two taco thing has kinda become my staple... that with a third item. You really need the crunchiness for that textural taste sensation.

Peace, out!

I'M FULL!!!!

What a Hellish week at the office. It's the only time I manage to squeeze in multiple Taco Bell meals without making time to do so. Saturday afternoon, it was two crunchy tacos and a Chalupa. I had sour cream. Sour cream is a much maligned condiment that i love.... Like anchovies on pizza, you either love it or hate it.

Saturday night is alright for fighting but I'm a lover not a fighter. My first love is taco Bell and I showed my true affection by eating a Chicken Quesadilla, a Crunchwrap Supreme and an order of Nachos.

When I awoke this morning/afternoon, I headed straight for the nearest Bell and got my breakfast/lunch. A crunchy Taco, a chalupa and a gordita. By including the holy trinity of the handheld menu, i showed no favored nation status to any of the menu items. Alas, this brought universal Taco peace in the galaxy.

True love

The girlfriend has been giving me a hard time for not enough Quality time with her. At lunch, I unleashed a torrent of Mountain Dew Baja Blast into my system after the weekend. I used it to wash down a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, a Fiesta gordita and one Crunchy Taco.

On the way home, I went a little hogwild. Don't judge me, but I bought one of those ten packs of crunchy tacos, and YES, I ate all ten of them. I'm only human and even after eating six of the ten, I could not help myself as I saw those remaining four tacos calling out my name... begging me to finish them off. In a sense, they seemed to be crying out, "EAT ME!!!" And so I did. I ate every crunchy bite.

Did I feel shame? Hell no. What a majestic site to behold. Somehow I pictured the brain trust and think tanks of the bell parked in some woodsy campus in the midwest.

But I have to say I'm happier to see that the bell is proudly haging out on the corner in Irvine Ca in a glass building. I wonder if you can look in and see them creating the next Crunchwrap, Empanada or whatever happens when they throw those seven ingredients up in the air.

Anyway I can tell you my Taco Bell looks a whole lot different at sunset that that building there.

Hmmm. I noticed no winners yet in my Name that ad post/quiz. I also noticed the weird blog spam (check the Name that ad post) in the comments section. I like the love, but could do with out the penisd enlargement spam.

At any rate, I took a short break from the Bell this week. I've been eating lots of catered leftovers from company meetings. The upgrade process at work as not been smooth, so the IT guys have not been able to slip out to get lunch.

Last night I satiatedd my cravings though with another TB blow-out. SO, here were my last five Taco Bell meals.

Friday night:
A large Pepsi, two crunchy tacos and a beef and bean burrito. Old-fashioned? Perhaps, but I consider this meal to be the comfort food of my Taco Bell diet. Like having a large labrador retriever fetch tyour paper and slippers as you puff on your pipe in front of a roaring fire, and sipping brandy from a sifter glass, surrounded by mahogany finishes and.... but I digress.

Saturday lunch:
A crunchwrap supreme (they're back!), cheesy potatoes, a large Code Red and an empanada for dessert. If the Friday dinner was old school, this was definitely new school. Friday was like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, while Saturday was like 50 Cent.

Saturday dinner:
Joined by the gf, we munched on Zesty Chicken Border Bowls and shared an order of Nachos Bell Grande. Eating by the glow of my 30 inch TV as we watched a Tivo'ed LOST (I love that show).

Sunday lunch:
Hung with Tony and Rand, we chowed down on tacos, chalupas and gordita. I think of gorditas and chalupas as brothers, but not twins. Well, maybe fraternal twins. Accompanied by a large Pepsi.

Today:
Another crunchwrap supreme, a crunchy taco and a order of nachos. Yes, I may have over-extended myself this time. I almost (almost) didn't make it through the nachos, but I toughed it out and finished them while working.

Name that ad, round one

 valuemenu
Originally uploaded by Totblog.
Oh this is sooo cool. They had a few ads featuring this fellow.

And in case any of you ladies have been wondering what I look like in the tub, this should give you a pretty good idea. That means migrating work files and rebuilding hard drives... and less time to post.

But fear not readership! Less posting time does not mean less taco time. After all, every man must have his chalupa. A quick rundown of the week's menu...

Monday afternoon:
A Grilled Stuft burrito, Nachos and large Pepsi. I got the spicy chicken burrito this time.... hmmmmm.

Tuesday lunch:
Two Crunchy Tacos, A beef and Bean burrito and a Baja Blast. Me loves me the baja blast!

Thursday dinner (a slight misnomer, since i worked late and didn't get to eat until after 9pm):
A gordita, a chalupa and two crunchy Tacos. Plus a regular Strawberry drink. I always stare at that fountain and wonder what that strawberry drink tastes like. Must've been the hour, but tonight I took the plunge. It was okay, but not a great complement to the meal. Someone must like it though... it's been on there for a long time.

Anyway, I have another couple of weeks of upgrading left. Plus all the new equipment has not come in yet. It's design is truly futuristic. A crunchy taco wrapped in warm flatbread, hermetically sealed together by a three cheese blend.

For those of you who substituted cheddar for nacho cheese in the crunchwrap, this will be a welcome surprise.

Anyway, while we're told that the crunchwrap will be making a return visit in the fall, Think Outside The Blog would like to suggest we settle in for the wait to a tray of Cheesy G's and a large pink diet pepsi-ade (my signature combo of diet Pepsi and a generous splash of pink lemonade).

That’s what I had today and it’s what I’ll be having tomorrow.

True love never dies. It just tranmmutes from a crunchwrap into a cheesy gordita crunch.

It's even shaped like a crunchwrap

 StrommenClosedWebsite
Originally uploaded by Totblog.
Yes it's true my harcore crunchwrap fans. It's a little saucier and heavier with the flatbread but a textural taste sensation none the less.

And lest you off yourself this evening due to crunchwrap withdrawls, I've heard that there's a good chance that the crunchwrap may indeed become a PERMANENT menu item in the not so distant future.

Keep your tastebuds peeled.

My cup runneth over

Once in a while I actually have enough time to go to taco Bell and eat my meal there. today was such a day. I went out for a late lunch around 1:45.

Today's menu included a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, a beef burrito and from the "Big Bell Value Menu", a cheesy potato cup, which is basically home fries with melted cheese slathered on (Homer voice: ooohhh.... slathered).

The great thing about eating at the Bell is the free refills. The employee asks "Can I take your order."

The guy says "I'll have two crunchwrap supremes and a Code Red," then looks over at the girl.

The girl shakes her head and says "no thanks I'm good."

Once at the table the girl looks at the guy and bats her big baby blue eyes and says "can I have a bite of your crunchwrap?"

CAN I HAVE A BITE OF OF YOUR CRUNCHWRAP???

For those of you looking for a punchline, there is none because this is not a joke.

Jules has yet to understand that while I have not used the "L" word, I care about her enough to buy her any Taco Bell item her heart desires. She can eat and enjoy anything AS LONG AS IT'S NOT MINE!

She doesn't seem to understand this, remarking "Oh it's just a bite." Well let me tell you that any true Taco Bell enthusiast knows that one puts a great deal of thought into constructing and then deconstructing every bite in one's order. And that one missing or given away bite can throw everything in my Taco Bell universe into disarray.

This may come as close to a Rant as you'll ever find on this blog but I must stand firm on this issue.

I only hope my relationship with Jules can survive another day and another unrequited bite of crunchwrap.

Crunchwrap Friday: Breaking training

Freaky Friday, I would not trade places with anyone else because today, I wrapped up the crunchwrap challenge with TWO Crunchwrap Supremes. Everytime I stand at the fountain with my large plastic cup, the strawberry nozzle tempts me... nay, taunts me, to give it a try.

Chalupa Crashers

Went to see Wedding Crashers this weekend. Funny, funny flick. I give it four stars... no. Make that four chalupas. Coincidentally, that's the number of tasy Taco Bell chalupas i ate this weekend. Two on Saturday, two today. Saturday i supplemented the duo with a crunchy taco. Today i added a quesadilla for variety.

I wonder if it's too late to go back to the Bell for more. As I type this, I am overtaken with an urge to eat two crunchy tacos... and that's AFTER I just finished eating dinner with Jules. Mayhaps I will swing by the Bell one more time....

Hump Day

So it's been a particularly bad week so far at work. Had a server go down over the weekend (one of the older ones) and had to restore settings for about 15 users. Sucks. Naturally, I had to hit the Bell and cheer myself up.

I'd been doing the Crunchwrap a lot recently so I thought I'd change it up a bit. Today I indulged in two crunchy tacos and a chicken quesadilla. The cq has got some sort of spicy thousand island sauce that really gives it a kick... but not too spicy.

You'd think such a delightful lunch would have done the trick, but alas, no. I went back for seconds at dinner. After work, I got a mexican pizza and a chalupa, fresco style. The mp is something I don't get a lot, but enjoy anyway. To finish it all off, an apple empanada. The caramel and cinamon flavor gives it a leg up on McD's apple pie. Sweet.

Weekend Crunchwrap Extravaganza

I'm proud to announce that I've set a new world record for most Crunchwrap Supremes eaten by a IT guy in my company:

FIVE in one weekend.

I had two on Saturday afternoon with a large Pepsi... 1 on Saturday night with a crunchy taco and a large Pepsi... and 1 Sunday afternoon with a gordita and a Mountain Dew Baja Blast.

I did learn that a CS is best eaten immediately at the store, as the crunchy tostada in the center goes a little soft in transport home.

Fantastic Two

Tonight I hit the Bell near the office on my way to see the Fantastic Four movie. Then suddenly, the battle begins. Who will win... the chalupa or the gordita? Perhaps the Crunchwrap Supreme (after all, it's "good to go"). A war rages on in your mind, nowhere to escape. My buddies up north kept telling me about this Taco Bell where surfers could walk up to a window right off the beach and order lunch. I thought close to the beach but surley not on the beach. Well I got this picture from them today.

This Surfer's paradise is in Pacifica, just south of San Francisco. Hey, if you're gonna battle great whites to go surfing, you might as well do it well fed. I guess I cultivated it, cause now I go three or four times a week.

But I do loves me some tacos.

Show your colors

It just occured to me that all the headings and links on this blog are Taco Bell colors. The one thing I miss is the Star Wars toys at Taco Bell. When the original trilogy was rereleased, Taco Bell had a bunch of Star Wars toys.

On my desk at work, i still have the Yoda/ Darth Vader mirror cube toy. Wonder why the Bell didn't do toys for the new movies. Maybe Lucas wanted too much.

Anyway, I liked the movie. Best of the new trilogy and way better than the stupid Ewoks in Return of the Jedi.

Like a moth to a flame

I eat at Taco Bell so much, i can spot one from a mile. That sucker always fills me up. Must be a pound of food in that thing. I got the one with chicken. One of those and a large Pepsi holds me over nicely until dinner, which will be a regular meal since i'm meeting Julie later. I think I could eat two of those burritos. Even though they're pretty big, they taste so danged good that I might make it through a second one. It was a combo store with KFC. While I appreciate fried goodness as much as the next guy, i have to admit I was in the mood for a couple crunchy tacos and a beef burrito.

Tacos and burritos are really the foundations of a tasty meal at the Bell.... the Bell's equivalent of bread and water really. In my billfold is a $50 bill and a $2 bill. That is all of the cash I have on my person. I figure that with a $2 bill, I can get something to eat and not have to worry about people getting pissed at me.

Me: "Hi, I'd like one seven layer burrito please, to go."
Clerk: "Is that it?"
Me: "Yep."
Clerk: "That'll be $1.04, eat here?"
Me: "No, it's to go." [I hate effort duplication.]

At this point I open my billfold and hand him the $2 bill. He looks at it kind of funny and says,

Clerk: "Uh, hang on a sec, I'll be right back."

He goes to talk to his manager, who is still within earshot. The following conversation occurs between the two of them.

Clerk: "Hey, you ever see a $2 bill?"
Manager: "No. A what?"
Clerk: "A $2 bill. This guy just gave it to me."
Manager: "Ask for something else, there's no such thing as a $2 bill."
Clerk: "Yeah, thought so."

He comes back to me and says,

Clerk: "We don't take these. Do you have anything else?"
Me: "Just this fifty. You don't take $2 bills? Why?"
Clerk: "I don't know."
Me: "See here where it says legal tender?"
Clerk: "Yeah."
Me: "So, shouldn't you take it?"
Clerk: "Well, hang on a sec."

He goes back to his manager who is watching me like I'm going to shoplift, and

Clerk: "He says I have to take it."
Manager: "Doesn't he have anything else?"
Clerk: "Yeah, a fifty. I'll get it and you can open the safe and get change."
Manager: "I'm not opening the safe with him in here."
Clerk: "What should I do?"
Manager: "Tell him to come back later when he has real money."
Clerk: "I can't tell him that, you tell him."
Manager: "Just tell him."
Clerk: "No way, this is weird, I'm going in back."

The manager approaches me and says,

Manager: "Sorry, we don't take big bills this time of night."
[It was 8:00pm and this particular Taco Bell is in a well-lighted indoor mall with a hundred other stores.]
Me: "Well, here's a two."
Manager: "We don't take those either."
Me: "Why the hell not?"
Manager: "I think you know why."
Me: "No really, tell me, why?"
Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security."
Me: "Excuse me?"
Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security."
Me: "What the hell for?"
Manager: "Please, sir."
Me: "Uh, go ahead, call them."
Manager: "Would you please just leave?"
Me: "No."
Manager: "Fine, have it your way then."
Me: "No, that's Burger King, isn't it?"

At this point he backs away from me and calls mall security on the phone around the corner. I have two people staring at me from the dining area, and I begin laughing out loud, just for effect.

A few minutes later, this 45-year-oldish guy comes in and says at the other end of counter, in a whisper:

Security Guard: "Yeah, Mike, what's up?"
Manager: "This guy is trying to give me some [pause] funny money."
Guard: "Really? What?"
Manager: "Get this, a two dollar bill."
Guard: "Why would a guy fake a $2 bill?" [incredulous]
Manager: "I don't know? He's kinda weird. Says the only other thing he has is a fifty."
Guard: "So, the fifty's fake?"
Manager: "No, the $2 is."
Guard: "Why would he fake a $2 bill?"
Manager: "I don't know. Can you talk to him, and get him out of here?"
Guard: "Yeah..."

Security guard walks over to me and says

Guard: "Mike here tells me you have some fake bills you're trying to use."
Me: "Uh, no."
Guard: "Lemme see 'em."
Me: "Why?"
Guard: "Do you want me to get the cops in here?"

At this point I was ready to say, "sure, please," but I wanted to eat, so I said,

Me: "I'm just trying to buy a burrito and pay for it with this $2 bill."

I put the bill up near his face, and he flinches like I was taking a swing at him. He takes the bill, turns it over a few times in his hands, and says

Guard: "Mike, what's wrong with this bill?"
Manager: "It's fake."
Guard: "It doesn't look fake to me."
Manager: "But it's a two-dollar bill."
Guard: "Yeah?"
Manager: "Well, there's no such thing, is there?"

The security guard and I both looked at him like he was an idiot, and it dawned on the guy that he had no clue.

My burrito was free and he threw in a small drink and those cinnamon things, too. Makes me want to get a whole stack of $2 bills just to see what happens when I try to buy stuff. If I got the right group of people, I could probably end up in jail. At least you get free food...

Copyright 1993 Captain Sarcastic (kkoller@nox.cs.du.edu)

http://www.digiserve.com/eescape/closet/silly/2-at-Taco-Bell.html

Hot Sauce!!!

 BorderSauce1
Originally uploaded by Totblog.
OK so I'm walking out of the Taco Bell, look down and this is what I see. Firday night, I hit the local Bell with Gary from work. He had never had a chalupa.

What?

You heard me. Naturally, I had to induct him into the tasty world of chalupas. We opted for the fiesta style, which is kinda salsa-y with sour cream and bits of corn kernels. Gary also got a beef burrito and I did the fiesta potatoes, which Gary had also never had. Overall, he was happy, but still didn't get my TB obssession.

Saturday, I hung with Julie and went to some farmer's market until 4pm. I convinced her that chalupas would be good for dinner. She went for the chicken quesadillas though. She really likes the sauce they put in those. I had a chalupa and the double taco off the value menu. I could have saved so money if I stuck with the VM, but i figured the whole menu was cheap anyway.

After the Bell, we went to see Elektra. Stinker, though Jennifer Garner is smoking. Can't believe Affleck's hitting that.

Sunday, I met my bro for lunch.... guess where. I continued my Chalupathon with TWO chalupas and a gordita. I never get tired of this stuff.

Four chalupas in one weekend! Not quite a personal record (that would be six, last summer), but satisfying nonethless.

Crunchwrap Supreme RULES!!!

So I was visiting my cousin in Portland when this Taco Bell commercial comes on for something called the Crunchwrap Supreme. This is something I've never heard of, so I high-tailed it to the closest Bell and ordered one.

It was like a tostada INSIDE a burrito, except round. They kinda folded it into itself so it looked like a saucer shape. Anyway, it's filled with ground taco beef and cheese and lettuce and salsa. It's really a neat way to eat a taco, all crunchy, but without any mess. This could be my new favorite food.

The best part is I got it free cause I used my Border Bucks that I got when my store back home was closed last week.

Crunchwrap Supreme. Four stars. Check it out.

Almost lost my chalupa!

So this morning I was in the Tbell near my office and I tried to win a free chalupa on that spinning water wheel thing. I totally got my quarter on the platform, but then some dood goes and screws it up before I could get the manager's attention.

I try to explain it to the manager, but he totally doesn't believe me. Then the guy who screwed it up vouched for me, so the guy at the register just gave me my free chalupa. I also ordered one of those new Mountain Dew drinks, which was pretty good and also a couple of regular tacos.

I'm thinking of switching to the Taco Supremes, but are those really THAT much better than the regular tacos? I'm sure it has more meat and stuff, but is it worth the extra money?
